Description

The FT Flame fire extinguisher tamper seals are designed to let inspectors of a fire extinguisher know when it’s been tampered with.  A broken or missing seal identifies an issue.

These fire extinguisher tamper seals are made with one-piece plastic construction with imprinted dates on the ends. The seals are adjustable and can pull tight for a secure fit.

The Dated FT Flame fire extinguisher seal ties are UL recognized and are 9 inches long.

This product includes 500 Yellow colored and Black Imprinted DATED tamper seals in a single bag.

NFPA regulation mandates that new tamper seals be installed on rechargeable fire extinguishers whenever maintenance is performed  – See NFPA 10(98), Sec. 4-4.2.1

OnlineSafetyDepot.com also carries other fire extinguisher tamper seals in RedOrange, Blue, Green, and White.

When to Use Dated Tamper Seals

Fire extinguisher tamper seals serve as a visual indicator to show whether a fire extinguisher has been used or if someone has attempted to access it. The use of dated tamper seals provides an additional layer of information, indicating when the last inspection was performed, and whether it has been due for a follow-up check.

In some cases, such as in commercial or industrial settings, it’s important to have a record of the last time the fire extinguisher was inspected, for compliance with fire safety regulations and insurance requirements. In these situations, using dated tamper seals allows maintenance personnel or fire safety inspectors to quickly and easily determine if the fire extinguisher is up to date and if it needs to be serviced or replaced.

On the other hand, non-dated tamper seals only indicate that the fire extinguisher has not been used, but they do not provide any information on the last time it was checked or when it might be due for inspection. In less regulated or less critical settings, where the fire extinguisher may be checked less frequently, non-dated tamper seals may be sufficient to serve their purpose.

About Fire Extinguisher Tamper Seals

A fire extinguisher tamper seal is a device that is used to indicate if a fire extinguisher has been used or if it has been tampered with. The tamper seal is usually made of plastic or metal and is placed over the fire extinguisher’s trigger mechanism or valve to prevent unauthorized use. If the tamper seal is broken, it is an indication that the fire extinguisher has been used or tampered with and needs to be inspected and replaced. The purpose of the tamper seal is to ensure that fire extinguishers are readily available and in good working condition in case of a fire emergency.

US Regulations Governing Fire Extinguisher Tamper Seals

The use of tamper seals is required by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Both organizations have specific regulations regarding the maintenance and inspection of fire extinguishers, which include the use of tamper seals. NFPA 10, Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers, requires that tamper seals be used on all fire extinguishers, and that they be replaced if they are broken or missing. OSHA also requires the use of tamper seals and regular inspections of fire extinguishers as part of its general requirements for fire protection and life safety in the workplace.

NFPA Regulations for Fire Extinguisher Tamper Seals

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) requires the use of tamper seals on all fire extinguishers as part of its Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers (NFPA 10). This means that fire extinguishers must have tamper seals placed over the trigger mechanism or valve to prevent unauthorized use. If the tamper seal is broken or missing, the fire extinguisher must be inspected and replaced. The use of tamper seals is one of the many requirements set forth by the NFPA to ensure that fire extinguishers are readily available and in good working condition in case of a fire emergency.

OSHA Regulations for Fire Extinguisher Tamper Seals

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requires the use of fire extinguisher tamper seals as part of its general requirements for fire protection and life safety in the workplace. According to OSHA, fire extinguishers must be inspected and maintained on a regular basis, and tamper seals must be used to ensure that they have not been used or tampered with. If a tamper seal is broken or missing, the fire extinguisher must be inspected and replaced. OSHA also requires employers to provide training to employees on the proper use of fire extinguishers and to ensure that they are readily accessible and in good working condition. The use of fire extinguisher tamper seals is one aspect of these overall requirements, designed to ensure that fire extinguishers are available and ready for use in case of an emergency.
