Description
Rothco expandable steel shaft police batons come in a range of sizes, from 16 inches to 31 inches. This baton expands to a length of 21 inches using a friction lock mechanism, which allows the user to open the baton with a flick of the wrist.
The 21-inch expandable baton brings is lightweight and compact, but fits in the size range (21in to 26in) normally used by on-duty uniformed police officers, security guards, and other public safety personnel.
Advantages of a 21in Police Baton
Police batons, including those made by ASP and other popular baton manufacturers, are made in standard sizes that range from 16 inches to 31 inches, with the most common baton lengths being 21in to 26in.
This 21-inch baton is easier to store and carry by an officer than the larger batons, and it is also easier to conceal on the person for security reasons. This 21 inch baton is typically also easier to manipulate, especially for smaller people, than the largest sizes of batons available.

How to Use Friction Lock Expansion Mechanism
As with the other sizes of batons in this Rothco line of police batons, the 21in size baton uses friction lock as the mechanism for opening and closing the baton. The video below, although it uses a different friction lock baton, is a good demonstration of how to operate a friction lock. This video should help you understand how to effectively open and close a friction lock baton and should give you a feel of how it works.
